CLINICAL HYPNOSIS
I like to call it Mind Strengthening  OR  Brain Reprogramming
Because this is what we are doing by using Clinical Hypnosis

WHAT IS CLINICAL HYPNOSIS
It is an altered state of consciousness, with intense internal focus of mind, associated with mental relaxation, Automaticity, Absence of Judging or Monitoring & Suspension of Time and Sense of Self.

HOW DOES IT WORK
We all have two minds - conscious and subconscious.

Conscious mind houses Will Power, Working Memory (temporary memory), Analytical Thought Process, Rational Thinking & Logic. Its language is Conscious Wanderings.

Whereas the Subconscious mind houses our Habits (answering phone), Emotions (conscious mind has NO control), Permanent Memory (everything - sight/sound), Security & Protective (Flight/fight) & it is not logical at all. Like people can be afraid of getting into an elevator, flying etc. Its Language is Imagination.

When you go to sleep at night your conscious mind has left you (it too is asleep), but you still breathe, roll over in bed, pull the covers over yourself if cold but do not recall doing this upon awakening in the morning. This is being done by your subconscious mind. Let us say that you had to wake up at an ungodly hour one morning to either catch a flight or get to someplace and it was extremely important  for you to be there. You were very worried that you won’t wake up in time as you normally don’t get up at that time. So, you put on one alarm, may be even two alarms, and even ask someone in the house to wake you up. Then in that worried state you finally fall asleep. Next morning you wake up a few minutes before any alarm goes off or someone wakes you up. How does that happen? It is because you had an intense focus in your mind only on having to get up at that time (to the point of obliterating all other thoughts) before going to sleep and that is how you programmed your subconscious mind to wake you up. As that is the only thing awake at time, and it wakes you up.

So, the system is already built inside you, the hypnotherapist just teaches you how to consciously harness that system. Looking at it in another way you ask – what is there in your body that controls your bodily functions? The answer is - your Brain! So, your brain is the boss of your body, as every single cell in your body is connected by nerves to the brain. Next question is – WHO CONTROLS YOUR BRAIN? After thinking about it there is only one answer - YOU do. Which means that you are the boss of your brain. But since your brain is the boss of your body then actually you are the boss of the brain and the body. People are doing surgeries using hypnosis with NO Anesthesia. Your mind is a powerful tool.

How do you get into hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a trance like state. We have all been in hypnosis or trance at one time or another. Like when are reading a remarkably interesting book, watching an intense car chase in a movie - someone might try many times to get your attention by calling and get no response from you. Then if they give you a touch stimulus you suddenly jump out of your skin. When you are deep in meditation also you are in a trance.

Once in trance you then give your subconscious mind commands/directions/suggestions to make changes in your thinking or your body to achieve your goal - like removing pain/unhealthy habits, getting to sleep etc.

Can hypnosis improve health?
It is exceedingly difficult to get rid of ingrained unhealthy habits  like a habitual cough. And it is just as difficult to cultivate better habits like - better eating habits to lose weight. But with hypnosis you learn to recruit your subconscious mind to help you achieve better health, better habits etc. Thus, helps you achieve the things that have been unachievable despite using medical treatment. Through this process, we can help our bodies solve problems, change habits, reduce discomfort and/or manage stress.

But the most important part of self-hypnosis is YOU. You have to want to:

1.         Make the change
2.         Make the effort, do the work - practice it
3.         Believe that it will work, have faith in yourself and your ability to achieve the goal

You might want to stop smoking but for that to happen - you must get the medicine, take the medicine, avoid the cravings & believe that you can do it otherwise you might give up after just a little effort. You cannot achieve anything in life without putting in an effort or like they say giving it your all. You will only do this if you really want to make that change happen.

What conditions has Hypnosis been used in with benefits?
           Anxiety
           Any bad habits
           Asthma
           Bedwetting
Burns for pain & faster healing
           Cancer
           Dental problems
           Doing surgery without anesthesia
           Faster healing from trauma
Faster healing and better outcome of surgery
           Headaches
Labor and delivery and other OB & Gyn problems
Pain of any type - both
           Chronic - like Neuralgia
Acute - procedures like – bone marrow aspirations, blood drawing etc
           Phobias
           Sleep problems
           Sports performance
           Tourette’s syndrome
           Weight loss,  etc

How is Hypnosis learned?
With the help of a teacher or guide who shows you the way and then you practice thus making it perfect. Just as you learn anything new you must practice it to learn it well - like, singing, dancing etc. The teacher or guide must be well trained.

Who can learn it?
Anyone who is interested in using this technique to help themselves. So, if the parents want the child’s tics to stop because they are bothersome to them and the child either does not care or is not even aware of them then this technique will not work. This is because 100 % of hypnosis is self-hypnosis and practice is involved. So, if the child is not interested, he will not practice and there will not be any change in the behavior.

Who teaches Hypnosis?
The hypnotherapist should have trained at a well-known institution and been in practice for a while to have the knowledge and have gained experience.

How does Hypnosis help you achieve your goals?
It helps you see things in a different light, like reframing your picture. The picture remains the same but your perspective about it changes. You think about it in a different way and then it becomes more manageable.

If you are having trouble with your weight, hypnosis is not a pill you take to help you lose it. Hypnosis helps you see things in a different light, changing how you think about your weight and then it changes the way you deal with it to solve that problem. Hypnosis helps to change your belief and thought process to then help you make the choice if you want to eat less calories, exercise or change what you eat etc. You can choose to do some or all of those then to achieve your goal.  But if you feel that you cannot do something then you definitely will not be able to do it. Because even if you try it, you will not put in your best effort.

Through learning self-hypnosis and practicing it you learn a tool to help you with unpleasant habits like-nail biting, habit cough etc, to get rid of chronic or acute pain of any type, making childbirth easy, getting rid of tics. Through this process, we can help our bodies solve problems, change habits, reduce discomfort and/or manage stress.
